Tom Hamill, grew up in Colby, Kansas, in a family of eight children with a father who was an independent business owner.  He has had a strong work ethic since childhood, with his first part-time job delivering newspapers starting around age 9.  He work throughout school for his father in the family business and for a local construction company, yet managed to find time to play sports year-round – including football, basketball, track, baseball, golf, swimming and tennis.  This environment fostered Tom’s independent streak and gave him an appreciation for the risks and benefits associated with entrepreneurial endeavors.

After college and law school (all at KU) and after a 6 month stint on activity duty, Tom joined the US Army Eight JAG unit in Kansas City.  In the mid-1970s, he founded his own firm and began to build his commercial/business practice. In 1996, he opened the Martin Pringle office in Overland Park, Kansas.  Tom’s practice has focused on business owners, representing them in commercial litigation and assisting in their professional and personal succession planning needs.

Tom met his wife in 1970 and married in 1974.  They have three children (a boy and two girls) and five grandchildren (four girls and one boy).  They moved to Prairie Village in 1975 and have lived in that city ever since.  In addition to building his law practice, Tom has served as a judge for the City of Prairie Village for thirty years.

One of the founding members of the Johnson County Bar Foundation, Tom has been active in numerous professional and charitable associations throughout his career. He is Past President of the Johnson County Bar Association, the Johnson County Bar Foundation, and the Kansas Bar Association. He was a member of the American Bar Association House of Delegates for 17 years, serving as the Kansas Delegate to the House, and a member of the Nominating Committee of the House of Delegates. He served on the Board of Governors for the American Bar Association and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Kansas Public Employees Retirement System for nearly four years and currently serves on the Board of the Catholic Foundation for Northeast Kansas.
